ASB in City Centre

ASB in City Centre

Do You Know Where Your Child Is?

We are seeing an increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the city centre during the after-school period and early evening, when groups of young people often meet and congregate.

Recent concerns have included:

Bikes being ridden through pedestrian areas at speed.

Wheelies and other dangerous cycling behaviour.

Groups gathering in large numbers, causing alarm or concern to members of the public.

Behaviour that can make shoppers, visitors and businesses feel intimidated or unsafe.

We are working closely with local businesses, including McDonald's, to help manage these issues. Measures are in place to reduce large groups congregating inside premises, and young people may be refused entry unless accompanied by a responsible adult.

Parents and carers are encouraged to:

✅ Know where your children are after school and during the evening.
✅ Encourage them to use local parks, sports facilities and open spaces appropriately.
✅ Speak with them about respecting others when out in public.
✅ Remind them that the city centre is a shared space for everyone.

Lichfield is fortunate to have a wide range of parks, open spaces and recreational areas where young people can safely meet friends and enjoy their free time. The city centre is not a playground, and everyone has a role to play in keeping it welcoming and safe for residents, businesses and visitors.

If you witness anti-social behaviour, please report it to Staffordshire Police via 101, online, or call 999 in an emergency.
